What Does TPMS Mean?

TPMS Light on Dash

TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System — a system that’s included with most of today’s new vehicles. This feature uses tire pressure sensors to measure the amount of air pressure in each of your car’s tires as you drive around New Philadelphia. If a tire falls below the recommended amount of air pressure, you’ll see a tire pressure warning light on your dashboard, so you know to add more air to your Honda’s tires. The TPMS helps you get the most out of your tires, especially in cold weather when tire air pressure tends to drop.

What Does the Tire Pressure Monitoring System Do?

Again, the role of the TPMS is to detect the tire pressure inside your tires and let you know when it drops too low via a dashboard indicator. What does the TPMS warning light look like? When it illuminates, it’s either constantly illuminated or flashing; it looks like a flat tire with an exclamation mark in the center. Or, you might just see the letters “TPMS” illuminated. If you notice an indicator matching one of those descriptions, it probably means your tires are underinflated, which will inevitably lead to:

  • Poor traction
  • Decreased load-carrying capability
  • Flat tire or blowout
  • Reduced fuel economy

Why is Proper Tire Inflation Important?

Proper inflation is crucial for your tires. Avoid over-inflating or underinflating your Honda car’s tires. When your tires are properly inflated, you’ll enjoy the following performance benefits on the Uhrichsville roads:

  • Increased tire life, thanks to reduced tread movement
  • Reduced rolling resistance, which will increase vehicle efficiency
  • Increased water dispersion, which will decrease the likelihood of hydroplaning

How to Properly Inflate Your Tires?

Consult your owner’s manual to learn more about the proper tire pressure for your vehicle. When you need to fill up your tires, you have a few options:

  • A lot of Coshocton gas stations have tire filling areas located away from the pumps.
  • The service center at Parkway Honda can refill your tires for you!
  • If one of your tires needs a quick boost, you can use a bike tire pump.
